The Chameleon Players in rehearsal 1985-2010

The Dull Bit  The Chameleon Players were formed way back in the mists of time, or January 1985 as it's better known, and a production of the farcical comedy Love's A Luxury by Guy Paxton & Edward Hoile was mounted at Hull Film Theatre in May of the same year. We now produce three plays a year mostly at the Northern Academy of Performing Arts and occasionally at other venues around Hull.

The Interesting Bit  The Chameleon Players have no President, no Chairman and no Committees of any sort - only a Secretary to handle administrative tasks. The Director of each production is give free rein to choose the play, cast the play, rehearse the play and delegate other responsibilities in whatever manner they see fit.  We believe that this ensures a wider choice of plays than any Play Reading Committee would propose and that we're producing something the Director has a real enthusiasm for.
Over the years we have staged works by authors as diverse as Peter Barnes, Alan Bennett and Ingmar Bergman (that's just the B's), and lots of plays with "Murder" in the title. We've performed everything from
Abandonment to... er... Wolfsbane (Curses, we've not done anything beginning with Z!)
We also try, where possible, to get new members on stage as soon as we can rather than keep them hanging about backstage for years. Rehearsals are what we like to call "Serious Fun" - in other words, we're serious about what we do, not necessarily about the way we do it!

The Other Bit  We meet at Lonsdale Community Centre, just off Anlaby Road,  on Mondays and Thursdays (and occasional Sundays) where we rehearse and drink gallons of tea (although not necessarily in that order!)
