Director's Commentary

I really enjoyed my second go at directing helped by a wonderful cast and of course Brian, who was going to do 'The Entertainer', but we didn't have enough people to cast it, and I'd had these three plays by Matthew Wilkie for about two years hoping one day we would perform them. Matthew did a 500 mile round trip to Hull to see his plays being performed and was really impressed with the Chameleons talent and very happy about the interpretation of his plays Jenny
After the disappointment of not casting the play I wanted to do, it was great of Jenny to step in with the Matthew Wilkie plays. As it turned out it was a great deal of fun doing them and putting on different hats depending on which rehearsal it was. And as for pointing a gun at the audience and screaming at them, may I recommend that everyone gives it a try. Very therapeutic. Acting award of the whole performance must go to Jenny for convincing Mark that the author wasn't going to make it Brian

The Author Speaks

Matthew Wilkie DID come and see us on Saturday night and this is what he had to say for himself, "I really enjoyed hearing the Hull-lilt saying my lines and think you have a bunch of talented folk there, yourself included. Well done and thanks for paying me the greatest compliment of wanting to do my plays"

Quote, Unquote

Although it was a real shame that we couldn’t do 'The Entertainer', I knew this would be a good ’un when we read it. It was an absolute sod to learn, though, and even on performance nights we were still playing fast and loose with the script! Even so, we got there in the end, and I think we brought out the relationships between the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed both my parts, although Cameron’s boiler suit was not the most flattering garment I have ever worn, and Charlotte’s pyjamas were far too warm under the stage lights! I don’t mean to sound unduly trivial, but both characters made such an impact on me it’s quite difficult to put into words. Suffice it to say if I was ever lucky enough to be given the chance to do another of Matthew Wilkie’s plays I’d jump at it - though I’d probably start learning my lines a LOT earlier!! Ailsa
Good fun, even though Helen knocked me about a bit! She packs quite a punch! Stand out for me was Ailsa and Sharon in '412 Letters' - great performances Simon

I really enjoyed doing this, I had forgotten what a buzz you get from going on stage - thanks so much to Jenny and Brian for casting me in the part. Sorry to Simon for blacking his eye, bruising his jaw and probably loosening his teeth! Does anyone have a use for a pale blue t-shirt now the quiz team is defunct? Helen
If I could have combined Friday's Tim with Saturday's Scott, I would have given a pretty decent performance. As it was, however, I gave a half decent perfomance David
Brief comments from my lot who came to see Horst. "Superb," "Brilliant," and "How on earth did they learn all those lines?" To those who didn't come to see it, a comment was "You all missed a real treat," or words to that effect Betty

Radio Days

Although 'Horst' had recently been broadcast as Radio 4's Afternoon Play, this was the first time any of these plays had been performed north of London. So, a regional premiere for the Chameleons!
