Boisterous, brimming with energy and full of mistaken identities and multiple deceptions, Oliver Goldsmith’s funniest and most famous play concerns the feisty, well-bred Kate Hardcastle who passes herself off as a barmaid to win the heart of Charles Marlowe, her stuffy suitor. Along the way, the conniving characters learn much about the nature of true love.

Director's Commentary Well first time directing, and WOW what a roller coaster ride it is. I'm surprised we actually managed to put the play on in the end, it just seemed that every time I thought we were getting some where something would happen to put things back - casting,  holidays, illnesses, rehearsal clashes and let's not forget Stan dislocating his shoulder! The play itself caused it's own problems by being such a wordy rambling beast. I was very conscious of making sure that the lines were not delivered too quickly, so that the audience could follow the play. However once everyone got into their roles, and started to understand their characters and their lines, it all began to fall into place. So well done to all of the cast (especially the new members), it was a pleasure to work with you all. Thanks to Helen for prompting and giving me a kick up the bum each time I felt like doing something rash. And finally... thanks for coming Ali! Neil

Quote, Unquote This production has very much been a couple of firsts for me; it is the first production that I've ever done outside of West Yorkshire (having moved over from Leeds in August), and the first production which I had a major role in, after years of bit parts in various other productions. And I've had a blast with it! I've been introduced to a great set of people who know how to balance a good laugh with a strong sense of doing everything they can to put on a great production. I can't say that I'll miss being thrown here, there and everywhere by Stan's Mr Hardcastle (aka Brian Clough impression)! Thank you for making me welcome Nick
It took me some time to get the actual story, but that's just me. Considering this was Neil's first job as director, I learned so much from him and Helen - constructive criticism is a fantastic thing. This was my first play with the Chameleons and everyone made me feel very welcome from day one  Shane
It was nice to work with a lot of new people who have a lot of talent. Seemed strange having hair again Ali
Giving me the unfamiliar role of a drunken servant opened the door to a new direction for me and helped me write a wish list of things I want to achieve whilst I am still breathing. Though the part was small it has led on to a bigger role and hopefully bigger opportunities in my character formulations. Stoops had a great cast, strong storyline and  Neal Coulman, who, whilst making his first stab in direction, carried it out to a T. The result being a complete success Peter
It was a rare treat  to watch our 75th production from the audience rather than being backstage. Very enjoyable with accomplished performances from our new young members, Nick, Tarin and Alex. Shane was brilliant as Tony and what can I say about Stan? A deserved round of applause after his tirade against a hapless Marlowe. An immaculate performance by Jenny with her usual superb comic timing - and that wig!!  In fact, everyone involved pulled out all the stops. Must also mention the costumes  very authentic. Well done to Neal - a worthy directing debut. Despite the worst weather for decades we still managed to pull in decent audiences.  Thoroughly enjoyed it
