Director's
Commentary If ever there was a complete Chameleons team
effort, this was it. A family
crisis meant that I had to take a back seat from about a month in, and Brian
stepped in to steer the production home. All credit to him for taking on
what was a difficult play to stage, and on a scarily short rehearsal
schedule.
However, everyone mucked in, whether it was sewing costumes, sourcing props,
sound effects and music, making up songs and dances, or designing the
programme.
Somehow, everything seemed to click in the week before the show, and I think
everyone enjoyed themselves on the nights. It would be unfair to pick out
any one performance, but the stick and bucket dance was definitely a
highlight every night. It was hard work putting this on, but I hope people
think it was worth it Andy |

Après le Déluge
"Let's do a Pratchett", we
thought, "Put some bums on seats. Fill the coffers". It would have worked too,
if it hadn't been for Hull suffering the worst flooding for fifty years - one
month's rainfall in twenty-four hours. (Although the soft, Southern-based
media only ventured as far North as Doncaster so it didn't get nearly as much
coverage. Wimps!) So, with thousands of homes flooded out
maybe we can count ourselves fortunate that N.A.P.A wasn't too badly affected
(even if the basement was still drying out while we were there) and that all of the cast managed to
make it there every night! |

Quote,
Unquote Although Lords & Ladies had a bit of a rocky ride
getting to the stage, it turned out to be one of our most successful shows. I
had a great time not only doing my "gap-toothed yokel" routine as Carter but
also getting stuck in with a) creating some choreography for the first time
since House of Frankenstein and b) getting the old needle and thread
out to create possibly the cheesiest troll outfit since, well, ever. Andy and
then Brian helped create an exceptionally happy atmosphere which communicated itself
to the audience and, in the witches, Ailsa and Val got themselves roles that they were born to play!
Ray
I've been a big fan of Terry Pratchett for ages, so I was thrilled
to have the opportunity to play one of my favourite characters. I think we made a fine job of a complicated script with a multitude of
strange characters! Where else would you see witches, wizards,
fairies, a motley collection of (very) rude mechanicals, a dwarf,
a king and an orang-utan all together on one stage?! Gratitude
also to the unsung heroes backstage, and to those who do all the other stuff, like producing
tickets, making monkey suits (sorry, APE suits!), prompting, and all the
other things which make a production hang together.
But I will always remember how funny it was seeing my hulking brute of a son being completely intimidated
on stage by a tiny little woman. Get used to it, mate!! Ailsa
Great fun to do, Shaun was a complete idiot, and I’m already terrified of Mandy, so
I didn’t have to do much acting Jack
Well done to Andy and Brian for keeping us all on the straight and
narrow, as we did not have much time to rehearse for such a big
production. I really enjoyed playing Magrat, she was such a
great character and changed as the play went on. Everyone was fantastic
and the costumes were brill. I really liked wielding the axe
and getting to kick some ass on stage!!! Oops, can I say that?
Mandy
Well done to Andy for chosing the play and Brian for
stepping into the breach at short notice. Still unsure about the plot - I
need to get into Pratchetts head I think Terry
It was good to be part of a big cast I think every one enjoyed
taking part and it was a lot of fun, having not read any Pratchett novels it wasn't
always easy to know what was going on in the early rehearsals but all soon
became clear and it gave us all a chance to dress up, and who could forget
Ray in that stunning little number? Jenny
Hem...hem....Dia...hem....Dia...hem...Diamanda
says....she says...that you were all very good but she says...she says I'm not
to tell you or it'll ruin her reputation as a witch forever. Got to go now,
I've...I've...I've got to draw Dia...Dia...Diamanda a magic circle before
she gets back from the stones Hannah

Was
I In That One? Or Return of The Chameleons
Part III. After Neal and Matti coming back into the fold, it was Ed's turn for
his first appearance since Abandonment in 2003. Conversely, this was
Esther's last appearance as she left Hull for Gibraltar! |
